I think it is time to talk about how I too am one of those people
Who sees their future as being dead alongside a desolate highway
Only to be found by a
Wichita Lineman who was
Checking the southern stretch to see if
It withstood the strain of the snow
He finds me there with my good intentions pulling out my hair follicles
And my humanitarian disposition eating away at my eyes
This me
Disheveled, Disenfranchised
And decaying in the elements
This me
Who has fallen into the unkind arms of comrades turned to the Russian horizon
Where the real image of things is obscured by the heat from hot lies
Rising off the highway
This me
Who wonders what my last breathing position will be
Next to the overpass
Will it be out of the rain? Will it be face down?
What grade of gravel will support my left cheek
And will my limbs look to be in an unnatural position as to shock the
Wichita Lineman
Still on the line, but thinking: “I don’t need this shit! Maybe I will just leave him there and let Highway Patrol clean-up.”
This me
Who still looks like a fresh-kill
Whose retirement planning seems to be inadequate
Which is too easy of a cheap-shot observation of a corpse in ill-fitting clothes
Bearing the hallmarks of hypertension and a misanthropic disposition
Now needs you more than wants you
And
This me
Who wants you for all time
Is now the embodiment of
Bad choices
And
Weak will
